New guidelines about visiting regional properties

On Sunday 18 October, the Premier of Victoria announced new public health restrictions across Victoria. These included advice regarding essential fire and flood preparedness work on properties in regional Victoria.

The new guidelines do not include non-emergency maintenance works, though we are hopeful that as restrictions ease, property owners from metropolitan Melbourne will be permitted to attend their properties at Falls Creek to perform summer readiness maintenance.

Our current assessment in consultation with the CFA is that there is no urgent requirement for property owners to perform fire preparedness works at Falls Creek.

Property owners from metropolitan Melbourne

Property owners from metropolitan Melbourne can travel to their property if they have been issued with a Letter of Support from Falls Creek Resort Management (FCRM) for travel for fire or emergency preparedness activities on that property. This letter must be produced if requested by Victoria Police.

We strongly encourage property owners from metropolitan Melbourne to use local contractors to carry out works on their property and only travel as a last resort. FCRM can also assist (see “FCRM services to help property owners” below).

If you travel into Regional Victoria for fire preparedness works, you have 72 hours inclusive of travel to complete the works. Metropolitan Melbourne property owners should note that the public health measures that apply in metropolitan Melbourne travel with you and apply once you reach your property at Falls Creek. For example, you are not permitted to travel beyond 25 kilometres from your Falls Creek property.

When you leave home, you must wear a face mask unless you have a lawful exception for not doing so and observe all other public health recommendations including gathering limits, physical distancing and good hygiene.

Regional restaurants and cafes are also obliged to refuse seated service for people from metropolitan Melbourne (takeaway is permitted).

Please check www.coronavirus.vic.gov.au for the full details of the public health measures that apply.

Property owners from regional Victoria

Property owners from regional Victoria are able to attend their properties as long as they comply with current restrictions applicable to regional Victoria.

Hard waste collection date change

The hard waste collection scheduled for November has been postponed until mid-January. A confirmed date will be advised as soon as it is rescheduled. This has been done so that property owners from metropolitan Melbourne are not under pressure to complete maintenance works.

FCRM services to help property owners

Local tradespeople who may be able to assist Falls Creek property owners to complete routine maintenance can be recommended by contacting [email protected] or calling 03 5758 1200.

Routine maintenance may include the following activities:

  • Brush-cutting and slashing
  • Fuel removal
  • Tree trimming
