Advisory Notice | Telecommunications Network
Falls Creek Residents and Business Owners,
Please be aware, the Incident Control Centre managing the Bogong High Plains Road landslip has advised that there is a high probability of an imminent failure to the fibre optic Telstra cable which provides services to the resort.
As a precautionary measure, Telstra will be locating a Satellite Cellular module within the resort on Saturday 5th of November. This unit will then be operational from Sunday 6th of November.
In the interim, a telecommunications redundancy plan has been activated.
Falls Creek Alpine Resort (FCAR) has placed two of its satellite phones for use in an emergency at the following locations:
- Monastery Apartments (opposite FCAR offices). The unit will be held by the Monastery Accommodation manager and is available for use by all residents in the event of any emergency.
- Snowski Apartments (Village Bowl) – Zac Howard (FC SES member) will also have a satellite phone unit for use by all residents in the event of any emergency.
In addition, the Falls Creek Fire Station will be making available use of the CFA radio to access in an emergency. The CFA radios will enable radio comms to Fire Comm (CFA Call centre) to initiate the response of emergency services.
Instructions on how to use the radio will be located beside the radio station. The radio station is located on the ground floor of the fire station, in the small watch room beside the engine bay. The front door to the fire station will be open with the activation of this plan.
The above plan will only need to be activated pending failure of the optic fibre cable to Falls Creek resort and will be in place until Sunday Nov. 6th, when it is anticipated the Satellite mobile station will be operational.
